SAMH seeks help to shape new physical activity programme

7th November 2016

SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) is holding a series of consultation events to learn more about how we can help people with mental health problems to become more physically active. The events are open to those who have lived experience of mental health problems. Those who work in the physical activity and sports community are also invited to attend.

The events will take place at the Scottish Youth Theatre in Glasgow on Wednesday 16 November; Motherwell Baptist Church on Tuesday 22 November; and Greenwood Conference Centre in Irvine on Wednesday 30 November.

They will help to shape a new three year project aimed at increasing the representation and participation of people with mental health problems in sport and physical activity.

Heather Duff, Development Manager at SAMH said:

“Regular exercise isn’t just good for our physical health, it’s also great for our mental health and wellbeing.

It’s therefore important that people with mental health problems feel like they have a voice and are being represented in their community, and that we work together to break down some of the barriers that exist.

“These events will play a huge part in doing this, and I’d encourage anyone with experience of mental health problems or who works in the industry to get involved.
